You guys know I love stories, right? I love unique ways of telling stories on layouts, and interesting ways of bringing those stories to the forefront graphically. cherryberry did just that in her layout ..and He Said that I found at The-Lilypad! I love the unique look of all the voices in different fonts and bubbles to draw attention to each and every one. The cute photo certainly helps!

It's back! Storyteller Spolight, that is! I love being able to share with you those layouts that I find tell a great story in form or function and that make me look 2 or 3 times to get all that the layout or project has to offer.

I love how she has used the circle of text to ground her photo, and the visual effect is great. The little talk bubbles of her favorite things make a really big impact. It's a wonderful twist on the list style of journaling.

This is the 3rd year of an amazing contest that I love! It gives you the chance to get out your pens and strut your stuff!

Here's how it works!

1. Jot down a quick sample of a funky, hip, cool or beautiful alphabet you'd love to see made into a font.

2. Send it to me @ djbfontography@gmail.com. It can be scanned or photographed. This is just a sample piece.

3. At the end of the contest (Oct 29), I'll pick my favorite sample (or 2 or 4 favorites).

4. Winner gets to sell their font with me as a Perfect Pair @ Sweet Shoppe Designs

It's that simple! yeah, yeah, there are some fine print things you need to read, but this is SO simple. And no matter how you might think it looks...send it in anyway! You never know - I might decide to 'font' it for you anyway, even if you aren't a winner!

The Case for Handwritten Recipes -

Funny enough, I ran across this article through a TV celebrity Chef, Alton Brown's twitter!! I couldn't agree more with the premise of the article that our handwritten recipes passed down are so important for so many reasons!

But I am also thankful for the extra boost the computer age has given us, and having our own handwriting font can take that handwritten look a step further!

Just some food for thought... (ha! get it? Food for thought?)

It's been 30 years since a drastic heatwave hit our area of the country, and while our temps aren't getting up in the 110+ area, we've had 30+ days of pretty drastic heat and no rain, making our summer long and hot! I'm envying you guys down under the equator, or over on our West Coast getting chilly weather right now! Maybe we'll have to buy a camper and become snowbirds and move to South America!

There's so much going on this weekend!! I hope you've set aside some time in your busy weekend to be able to enjoy the chats, contests, freebies, new products and all that's going on all over the scrap world this weekend!

Kibou (Hope) for Japan

New Fundraiser from Sweet Shoppe Designs

100% Profits go to the American Red Cross

Whenever a big tragedy happens around the world, sometimes it feels frustrating to not be able to ‘do’ anything. We can’t be there to physically help, it’s hard to get supplies there ourselves, but we can contribute by donating to relief agencies who are already set up IN the country with an infrastructure to get aid directly to the people who need it.

On March 11, 2011, an earthquake struck off the coast of Japan, churning up a devastating tsunami that swept over cities and farmland in the northern part of the country leaving a tragic amount of destruction and devastation in its path. Recorded as 9.0 on the Richter scale, it was the most powerful quake ever to hit the country. As of March 31, the official death toll had been raised to more than 11,600, and more than 16,000 people were listed as missing. Although there may be some overlap between the two groups, the final toll is expected to reach nearly 20,000 lives lost.

To help the people of Japan in our own way, Sweet Shoppe Designs has created a kit which 100% of the profits will be donated to the American Red Cross for their Japanese Earthquake and Pacific Tsunami fund.

Kibou for Japan

Kibou means ‘Hope’ in Japanese, and it is a very special kit jam packed with 3 dozen papers, more than 70 elements, 2 templates and more! It will be on sale for the month of April only, and is for such a great cause that we truly hope you will help us reach out the people of Japan in their time of need.
